Description
WHAT IS RETATRUTIDE?
Retatrutide for weight loss: “Ozempic version 3.0” – the third-generation GLP-1 peptide
Retatrutide is the most recently developed drug in the “Ozempic family” (i.e., the class of drugs known as “glucagon-like peptide-1 analogs”).
It is a peptide composed of 39 amino acids.
Retatrutide is still in phase 2 clinical trials, while semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) are already approved for the treatment of obesity.
It has been shown to significantly reduce food intake and increase weight loss in clinical trials. In fact, it is even more promising than semaglutide (Ozempic) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) in this regard. Here’s why:
- Triple mechanism of action: Retatrutide acts on three hormones related to appetite and satiety (GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon), while tirzepatide acts on two (GLP-1 and GIP), and semaglutide on only one (GLP-1).
- Greater weight loss: Phase 2 studies have shown that retatrutide results in greater weight loss compared to tirzepatide and semaglutide. On average, people using retatrutide lose 24% of their body weight, compared to 21% with tirzepatide and 17% with semaglutide.
- Better tolerated: Phase 2 studies suggest that retatrutide is better tolerated than tirzepatide and semaglutide. This means people using it are less likely to experience side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or other digestive issues.
BENEFITS OF RETATRUTIDE
- Induces very significant weight loss in a short period of time
- Improves insulin sensitivity
- Reduces blood sugar levels
- Has far fewer side effects than other weight loss medications
