Description
It is used to promote tanning. It works by stimulating alpha-melanocyte receptors, which encourage melanin production in response to sun exposure. When Melanotan-2 is applied within the “recent memory” of skin cells, a person tans as if they were genetically of a darker skin type. The effect of Melanotan-2 is long-lasting—results from a single cycle can take up to a year to fade. Maintenance cycles achieve an effect of indefinite duration. As a general rule, maintenance is usually required about 2 to 3 times a year. It also has pro-sexual effects, significantly enhancing libido.
In addition to tanning and libido-boosting effects, Melanotan II has been observed to reduce fat tissue and suppress appetite. Melanotan II signals fat cells to release more leptin, a hormone responsible for lipolysis. It also reduces insulin resistance and increases fatty acid oxidation. However, its primary mechanism for reducing adipose tissue is appetite suppression, which decreases caloric intake.
