Description

What is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is a natural tripeptide found in human plasma, urine, and saliva. It was discovered by Loren Pickart in 1973. This small amino acid fragment binds to copper ions, which are essential for proper bodily function.

Among its various functions, GHK-Cu acts as an anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective agent after injury. It also stimulates wound healing, collagen synthesis, blood vessel growth, and attracts immune cells. Unfortunately, GHK-Cu levels decline with age, increasing inflammation and tissue damage.

To counteract this decline, external application of GHK-Cu via subcutaneous injection is commonly used to maintain optimal concentrations. GHK-Cu is also used in cosmetic products due to its anti-aging properties.

A study from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey found that a facial cream with GHK-Cu significantly increased collagen production in photoaged skin of 20 women. Compared to other creams, the GHK-Cu cream increased collagen in 70% of participants, while vitamin C and retinoic acid creams were effective in only 50% and 40% respectively.

Another 12-week study using a facial and eye cream with GHK-Cu showed significant improvements in skin appearance, clarity, and firmness. It also reduced fine lines and wrinkle depth, and increased skin density and thickness compared to placebo. The eye cream with GHK-Cu outperformed a cream containing vitamin K.

Benefits of GHK-Cu

  • Increases production of nerve growth factors and regeneration rate of myelinated nerve fibers
  • Enhances development and repair capacity of epidermal stem cells
  • May reverse expression of certain genes involved in metastatic spread of colon cancer
  • Stimulates synthesis of collagen and glycosaminoglycans in skin fibroblasts
  • Regulates at least 4,000 human genes, essentially resetting DNA to a healthier state
  • Hair growth: Studies show GHK-Cu strongly stimulates hair growth, with effects comparable to 5% minoxidil
