What is Cerebrolysin?

Cerebrolysin is a neurometabolic stimulator based on neuropeptides (20%) and amino acids (80%) isolated from pig brain tissue. It was developed in 1949 by Gerhart Harrer, an Austrian professor, and approved on August 1, 1954. Unlike most peptide drugs, Cerebrolysin contains all the amino acids that make up the central nervous system; this may explain many of its positive properties.

Just like Semax, it is included in the Russian List of Essential Medicines.

Cerebrolysin vs Cortexin

Cortexin is another peptide-based drug. It shares some similarities with Cerebrolysin, such as its neuroprotective and nootropic properties. However, there are key differences between the two:

Cerebrolysin is composed of low molecular weight peptides and free amino acids, while Cortexin contains a mixture of polypeptides, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.

Mechanism of action: Although the exact mechanisms of action of both drugs are not fully understood, they are believed to have some differences. Cerebrolysin is thought to primarily promote neurogenesis (the growth and development of new neurons) and enhance synaptic plasticity, while Cortexin is believed to have a more diverse range of actions, including stimulating neuronal growth, modulating neurotransmitter release, and improving cerebral blood flow.

Indications: Both drugs have been used to treat various neurological conditions, but they may have different indications. Cerebrolysin is mainly used for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, stroke recovery, and traumatic brain injuries, while Cortexin has a broader range of potential applications, including improving cognitive function, aiding in brain injury recovery, and reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The product comes in a box with 5 ampoules of 10ml of Cerebrolysin.

How to use

Intramuscular injection. In certain cases, it can also be used intravenously.

The standard cycle of Cerebrolysin is 1 ampoule applied intramuscularly every day for 10 days (requires 2 boxes). However, it may vary according to medical recommendations.
